Programme prospectus
Micro-irrigation systems is becoming popular due to its high water application efficiency. In this course, a step-by-step design procedure of micro-irrigation will be presented with the help of practical examples.
In particular, the participants will learn about (i) how soil type, topography and water supply affect the design of the irrigation system, (ii) how to develop a suitable irrigation layout for a site, (iii) how to select appropriate system components and install them in the field and (iv) how to operate and maintain the system to save water, energy and money.

The School of Environment and Agriculture at the University of Western Sydney, Hawkesbury Campus is entrusted with the responsibilityof developing strong irrigation teaching and learning programmes. The School is well known nationally and internationally for its experiential learning approach to education and combines sophisticated irrigation theory with a hands-on approach to provide useful training to irrigation professionals. The UWS has access to indoor and outdoor laboratories related to water and irrigation, a campus farm (1 500 ha), a meteorological observatory, a conference centre and computer facilities, for running the short courses and carrying out research in irrigation.
