Field exercise on determination of soil properties will be conducted along with field visits to existing irrigation and drainage systems to view the applicability of course objectives. Intensive exercise on network planning will create self-sufficiency in applying the knowledge gained in the field. The course curriculum includes: network planning, determination of soil properties, land irrigability classification, land grading and land levelling, water application methods, network planning concept and methodology, planning and designing of irrigation and drainage systems, field exercises on determination of soil properties, field visits to observe planning and construction of watercourses and field channels, field visits to irrigation and drainage system in Chambal Command and practical exercise on network planning. This entails appropriate training of all planners, field workers and farmers by a management institute that is well equipped with the necessary tools and training facilities. The Irrigation Management and Training Institute, Kota (Rajasthan), fulfils this requirement. The Institute was established in August, 1984 under the Water Resources Management and Training (WRMT) Project assisted by the United States Agency for International Development.
