Brief description of institution/organization
Accelerated irrigated land use and optimization of agriculture production through efficient soil-crop-water management without resources degradation is essential to meet the food and fibre needs of India's population.

Sustained and increased agriculture production is possible only through an integrated participatory development approach where all concerned are dedicated to Nation development. This entails appropriate training of all planners, field workers and farmers by a management institute that is well equipped with the necessary tools and training facilities. The Irrigation Management and Training Institute, Kota (Rajasthan), fulfils this requirement.

The Institute was established in August, 1984 under the Water Resources Management and Training (WRMT) Project assisted by the United States Agency for International Development. Its main objectives are:

- Training the in-service personnel of Irrigation and Agriculture Departments and farmers in irrigation management through regular courses, workshops and seminars, to improve their job performance to optimize agriculture production in the irrigated areas.
- Provide consultancy in irrigation management and irrigated agriculture.
