considers training and technology transfer to be an important part of its
service to clients providing, as it does, the vital link between economic
construction and successful implementation and management of work. Binnie Black
& Veatch's prime concern is to offer an effective training service in
accordance with the client's requirements. Great importance is given to an
initial appraisal to identify training needs, consider the organization of
training activities, establish plans and programmes or formal and informal
courses, develop curricula, select training materials and set up monitoring and
evaluation systems.
Many of the projects in various countries require training for
local staff. This may take the form of on-the-job training of counterpart staff
for the duration of the project and/or formal training workshops and seminars.
These programmes can be targeted at professional engineers, scientists,
technicians, administrators, accountants and managers. It is often necessary to
provide technical guidelines or materials to support the on-the-job training
role. Where appropriate, management consultants would be seconded to the project
team in order to offer a wide range of training services.
