Brief description of institution/organization
Much of the achievement in global food security today can be credited to the partnerships between the US Land Grant Universities and state, federal and international agencies focused on agriculture. The applied research and emphasis on human and institutional development that emerged from these partnerships reoriented world thinking toward the user-oriented approaches that are the mainstays of modern agriculture.

A major proportion of applied research, professional and academic training and technical assistance programmes in agriculture over the next three decades can and must be accomplished through electronic collaboration between US and international experts. The Irri-Net facilitates integrated, interactive and participatory electronic collaborations from anywhere in the world. An important goal of the Irri-Net concept, therefore, is to assemble, develop and disseminate information needed by agricultural institutions and personnel.
