Co-ordinator's report

David Wilcock
The FIVIMS Secretariat is busily preparing for the fifth annual meeting of the IAWG, to take place at FAO, June 26th-28th. If you have not received an invitation and would like to attend, please contact the Secretariat by e-mail (address on last page of this newsletter). We look forward to seeing many of you at the meeting.

The Secretariat also welcomes Dr. Johannes Schmidt to the staff. He is trained as a paediatrician and epidemiologist, joined us a few days ago, and will be working on what we call the "FIVIMS-CCA project", under funding from the new FAO-Netherlands Partnership Programme. This project is the realisation of work begun by IAWG Chair Peter Matlon and myself last year at UNDGO in New York. Inter-agency food security and poverty reduction efforts (represented by the UN System's Common Country Assessment, CCA, and the World Bank's Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers, PRSP) need to have a solid base of sub-national information on basic needs, in order to improve targeting of resources and efficiency of interventions. This project will seek to associate, in several pilot countries, national FIVIMS with the monitoring and evaluation functions of CCA and PRSP. More will come as the project gets underway.
