SURVEY RESULTS

Hydrography

The hydrographic data are shown in Fig. 5-7. On Figs. 5 and 6 from the Gulf of Oman, a core with high salinity is recognizable in 150 - 200 m depth. This is due to an outflow of saline water from the Arabian Gulf. (DITRICH 1973).

In the Gulf of Aden only one section was made, and it is more difficult to interpret the results.

In both areas, the oxygen content was generally below 1 g/l in the depth were the fish was found during day time, and in part of the Gulf of Oman it was below 0,25 g/l. Temperature varied between about 14 and 30 C in the depth where the mesopelagic fish was found. Both the oxygen and the temperature values are within the range observed in previous cruises in the area.
