This document is the report of the fifth meeting of the Advisory Committee of the programme “Development of Small-Scale Fisheries in the Bay of Bengal” referred to in brief as the “Bay of Bengal Programme”. The meeting was hosted by the Government of Malaysia and held in Penang, Malaysia November 4-7, 1980. The report records the deliberations and the conclusions of the meeting and was approved by the committee. The report includes a summary of progress made by the BOBP in 1980, the second year of operation. It also discusses the outlines of future work. It therefore serves as a source of reference to officials of the countries concerned and might be of interest to other agencies and people engaged in small-scale fisheries development, particularly in the Bay of Bengal area. “Development of Small-Scale Fisheries in the Bay of Bengal”, GCP/RAS/040/SWE, is a regional FAO programme funded by the Swedish International Development Authority (SIDA) and executed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Five countries are members- Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The Programme’s Advisory Committee is composed of representatives of the five membercountries, FAO and SIDA. The committee meets once a year. Earlier meetings were held in Colombo (1976), Madras (1977), Chittagong (1978), and Phuket (1979). |
