43. It was recommended that:
· Guidelines on the development and introduction of co-management should be developed with FAO assistance. The guidelines should include appropriate indicators to measure progress of co-management at national and regional level.
· Research programmes should be carefully designed to address the social, economic and biological information needs for better informed small-scale fisheries management decision-making.
· Workshops/seminars should be held in all sub-regions of sub-Saharan Africa on limited access with a particular focus on coastal and marine systems; prior to which in-depth studies on the options available and impacts associated with limited access need to be undertaken.
· Exchange of information on and experiences in co-management through exchange visits, national forums and access to available literature should be encouraged in the region.
