2. Hydrography

Figures 2 and 3 show the distribution of surface temperature observed with the thermograph at 4 m depth. In the northern survey area. Figure 2, two distinct zones of upwelling are located. One is off Cape Sim and the other off Cape Dra, and both areas are closely linked to the main distribution of the sardine, as will be shown below. The pattern in the surface temperature distribution off Agadir might suggest a slightly more offshore upwelling than in the above mentioned areas. Our survey net is however limited to the shelf and can not put more light on this.

In the southern area, between Cape Yubi and Cape Blanc, Figure 3, the core of the upwelling is between Cape Bojador and Dakhla, though cold water can be observed all along the coast.
