Acknowledgments

This is a co-authored report by Christopher Delgado of IFPRI, Clare Narrod of FAO, and Marites Tiongco of IFPRI, synthesizing results of Phase II of the joint IFPRI-FAO activity entitled: Livestock Industrialization, Trade and Social-Health-Environment Impacts in Developing Countries. The collegial interaction of colleagues at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), including co-authorship of the Indian Dairy case study, is gratefully acknowledged. Research was conducted via collaborative case studies led by national institutions in India, the Philippines, Brazil, and Thailand. The present report synthesizes insights from the country reports, which are listed as annexes to this report. Intellectual ownership of insights specific to the countries covered by the issues papers belongs to the authors of the country reports, who nevertheless should not be held responsible for any errors of interpretation on our part. The strong collaboration of Pierre Gerber of FAO and LEAD in providing the many complex maps of livestock distribution used by the project is very much appreciated.

The authors would also like to acknowledge the very valuable insights and suggestions received from Henning Steinfeld of FAO/LEAD and Cees de Haan of LEAD and the World Bank. They also thank Nikolas Wada and Gloria Paniagua of IFPRI for valuable editorial assistance along with a series of external editors organized by Uday Mohan of IFPRI. The entire project team thanks Tigist Defabachew, Shirley Raymundo, and Joy Fabela of IFPRI for administrative support for the research and arranging the many research visits of collaborators to Washington. The team also wishes to express deep appreciation to Shirley Raymundo and Joy Fabela for effort beyond the call of duty in organizing and formatting over one thousand pages of revised manuscript for the synthesis report and its annexes, all at very short notice.
