Households/production units were given an identification number. Variables to be measured or data to be obtained were set in advance (at the inception workshop). The periods to be covered were also determined in advance (i.e., either length of cycle or one-month production period). Variables were further classified as household characteristics or as production/farm-related characteristics. Production activities in hog production were classified into types, depending on output and technology of operations (e.g., the inputs used). The variables were then identified and described in Appendix Tables 4.1 and 4.2.
Names/labels were given and systematized for each variable.
Descriptions were provided for each.
Variables were identified as dummy, continuous, or categorical/discrete.
Units of measure were determined for each variable.
