PREPARATION OF THIS REPORT
This document contains the final version of the report of the Fifth Session of the Working Party on Fisheries Resources of the Commission for Inland Fisheries of Latin America (COPESCAL), held in the FAO Regional Office, in Santiago, Chile, from 24 to 28 September 1990.
ABSTRACT
The Working Party on Fisheries Resources of the Commission for Inland Fisheries of Latin America (COPESCAL), met at the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean in Santiago, Chile, from 24 to 28 September 1990. Experts from 10 countries of the Region participated in the meeting. Technical discussions included the following main issues: a) review of the Code of Practice for the Introduction of Exotic Species (prepared for the EIFAC) for the purpose of adapting it to the Region's requirements; b) fish production in natural lakes and reservoirs; c) river fisheries resources and project proposal for the Amazon basin; d) effects of pollution and of environmental impact on inland water resources; e) work plan for the next biennium. The Working Party submitted to the consideration of the Commission technical recommendations on each one of the subjects discussed.
