The whole Panel visited ICRAF headquarters from 16 to 24 April 1998 for the initial phase of the Review to familiarize itself with the Centre. The Panel members interacted with the Board, senior management and staff, and met with representatives from the Staff Associations and the External Auditors. During the initial phase, the Panel visited ICRAF's work at Embu. On 25 and 26 April, the Panel visited ICRAF's work at Maseno.
From 27 April to 5 May, three Panel members visited ICRAF's work in Southern Africa. From 9 to 17 June, two Panel members visited ICRAF's collaborative work in Latin America. From 18 to 22 June, two Panel members visited ICRAF's collaborative work in Southeast Asia. These visits provided further opportunities for Panel members to interact with ICRAF staff in the field and with their national and other partners.
The whole Panel returned to ICRAF headquarters on 23 June 1998 for the main phase of the Review. Panel members interacted with management, scientific support staff, individually and in small groups. Panel members also met with representatives from KARI, KEFRI, Nairobi University, ILRI, ICIPE, TSBF, UNEP, Rockefeller Foundation, GTZ and Officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Draft chapters of the Report were shared with the Director General. On 10 July 1998, the Panel Chair presented the Report of the Panel to Board members and senior management, and subsequently to staff.
