No results found.In order to support Kenyan farmers, the Kenyan Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) developed the Agro-Weather Tool. The farmers still rely heavily on traditional methods to understand weather predictions and those do not allow them to mitigate the risks brought about by climate change. The Agro-Weather Tool is a web and mobile based information system that incorporates climate information and good agricultural practices for farmers. The tool has been developed to help farmers better manage weather risks, maximize productivity and minimize the environmental impact of farming practices. In further support of the farmers in the arid and semi-arid regions ofmKenya, KALRO also developed KALRO Knowledge Hub and mobile applications. -

No results found.Rice Crop Manager and RiceAdvice are two decision support tools that were developed by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice) for rice crop management. The web based tool (Rice Crop Manager) and the android application (RiceAdvice) both aim at providing smallholder rice-farmers with timely field specific guidelines for crop and nutrient management practices. The tools provide information at the start of the season and for in-season practices such as weeding and fertilizer application. The guidelines are generated each new season, in order to remain as accurate as possible. Rice Crop Manager is a free decision-making tool accessible through the web browser for Windows, Android and Linux. It can be used on a smartphone, tablet or computer. RiceAdvice is a free application for Android and an Android-based smartphone or tablet is needed for its use. -

No results found.This discussion summary outlines the contributions made during the online discussion on the e-Forum on ICTs and Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition that took place from 19 June to 14 July 2017 on the e-Agriculture platform. This expert led discussion attracted contributions from the e-Agriculture Community. Participants shared their opinions on the three pre-designed guiding questions. What role can ICTs play in using Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition for farmers, especially small holder family farmers, rural women and youth engaged in agricultural livelihoods? What case studies demonstrate the benefits and/or damages of the use of ICTs and Open Data? What investments are needed to reap open data benefits and what precautions are needed to prevent damage to vulnerable farmers from opening data for agriculture and nutrition?
