Based on the analysis of the echo diagrams, the different types of bottom along the course tracks were classified as follows: 1: smooth even bottom; 2: more uneven but probably still trawlable bottom; 3: rough not trawlable bottom, and 4: very steep bottom. Figure 13 shows these observations for the Colombian shelf. Similar charts were given in the previous report for the shelf off Panama and Costa Rica. The mapping of the bottom conditions have been continued for these countries and a merged map will be issued in the final report.
