Fifth meeting of the Inter-Agency Working Group on FIVIMS, 26-28 June 2001, FAO headquarters, Rome.

The IAWG FIVIMS Secretariat, in association with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, is organising the fifth meeting of the Inter-Agency Working Group (IAWG) on FIVIMS. The meeting will be held in Rome, from 26-28 June 2001 at FAO Headquarters.

World Food Summit: five years later, 5-9 November 2001, FAO headquarters, Rome.

At the 1996 World Food Summit, world leaders pledged to work towards eradicating hunger, and set themselves the goal of halving the number of food insecure people in the world by 2015. This year, a follow-up meeting, World Food Summit: five years later, will be held at FAO in Rome, 5-9 November 2001. The meeting will review progress towards the goal of the 1996 World Food Summit and consider ways to accelerate progress.

The World Food Summit: five years later will take place within the biennial FAO Conference. World leaders will be asked to outline measures needed to achieve the goal, and make suggestions on how to accelerate progress. They are also expected to consider how resources invested in agricultural and rural development could help reduce the number of people suffering from hunger and poverty.

The Twenty-seventh Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) opened 10.00 hours on Monday 28 May 2001 at FAO Headquarters. The substantive issues addressed by the Committee are:

During the CFS, a special evening session was organised on practical FIVIMS application for information needs at country level.

Conference on Agricultural and Environmental Statistical Applications in Rome (CAESAR), 5-7 June, 2001, Palazzo dei Congressi, Rome, Italy.

The Italian Institute for national Statistics (ISTAT) is hosting the 2nd international conference on agricultural statistics, in collaboration with Eurostat, FAO, OECD, EN/ECE, NASS/USDA and ISI. The conference will serve as a departure point in the new millennium for the development of an information network of individuals and institutions involved in the use and production of agricultural statistics and interactions with issues concerning the environment, rural development and food security. FIVIMS will be present at the conference in the form of an information stand.

The World Health Organization is organizing a follow-up meeting for the Baltic countries on developing and implementing national food and nutrition action plans and policies. The meeting will take place in Latvia from 19 to 20 June, 2001.
