This is a co-authored report by Christopher Delgado of IFPRI and Clare Narrod of FAO, synthesizing the results of Phase I of the joint IFPRI-FAO activity entitled: Livestock Industrialization, Trade and Social-Health-Environment Impacts in Developing Countries. This research is conducted via collaborative case studies with national institutions in India, the Philippines, Brazil, and Thailand. The present report both brings together research that helps situate the study in a global context and synthesizes insights from the country issues papers. It relies in this regard on eight underlying reports supplied by collaborating national institutions, listed here with their authorship in the following pages. Intellectual ownership of insights specific to the countries covered by the issues papers belongs to the authors of the country reports, who nevertheless should not be held responsible for any errors of interpretation on our part. The authors would also like to acknowledge the valuable research and editorial assistance of Nikolas Wada and Karen Tibbo and unstinting clerical support from Shirley Raymundo, Tigist Defabachew, Joy Fabela.
