6.1 Catches
6.2 Effort Data
6.3 Length Compositions of the Commercial Catches
Catch statistics have been revised using the most up-to-date information available. This explains differences between some of the figures in the tables and the corresponding figures in the official statistics.
6.1.1 Morocco
6.1.2 Spain
6.1.3 Portugal
6.1.4 USSR
No hakes are thought to be discarded in any of the fisheries in the northern zone of CECAF. Landings can therefore be treated as equivalent to catches.
Data on hake landings were provided as follows:
(Table 1)
Moroccan vessels take mainly M. merluccius and landings for this species were provided for the years 1960-1976.
(Tables 1 and 2)
For the Spanish fleet, landings were provided by species and year for the period 1970-1976:
- for BAKAS and TRIOS |
: M. merluccius |
- for BOUS |
: Merluccius spp. |
(Table 2)
Data for all species of hakes, but mainly M. senegalensis were provided for the years 1964-1976 (Table 2).
(Table 2)
Landings were provided for the years 1964-1974. There are for all three species combined, but more than 90 percent consist of M. senegalensis.
6.2.1 Morocco
6.2.2 Spain
6.2.3 Portugal
6.2.4 USSR
(Table 1)
For M. merluccius, estimates were provided of the numbers of vessels and the total GRT for the years 1960-1976.
Effort data were provided for the period 1970-1976:
- for BAKAS: |
number of vessels |
|
number of trips |
|
number of days absence |
|
number of days fishing |
|
- total GRT based on only those vessels that have worked
regularly on the fishing grounds (i.e. using only those vessels that have done
more than 11 trips per year) (Table 1) |
- for BOUS: |
number of vessels |
|
number of trips |
|
number of days absence |
|
number of days fishing |
- for TRIOS: |
number of fishing units |
(Table 2)
Effort data were provided for the years 1964-1976, giving:
number of vessels
number of trips
number of hauls
number of hours fishing
No effort data were available. It was noted however that there had been no significant change in total effort by USSR vessels from 1965-1976.
For M. merluccius, length composition data were provided by Morocco (Tables 3 and 4).
For Merluccius spp. length composition data were provided by Portugal (Table 4 and Appendix 4).
