Figure 3 shows the distribution of temperature, salinity and oxygen in the two hydro-graphical sections worked out, north of Tobago and east of Trinidad. The profile off Trinidad show higher temperature and lower salinity in the surface waters compared to the conditions during the previous survey. This is due to the heavier outflow of fresh water from the Orinoco. In the deeper waters, below 50 m, the conditions look much as during the previous survey. There is no sign of upwelling off the east coast. The effect from the Orinoco outflow can also be traced north of Tobago. Comparing the hydrographical conditions with the ones found during the first survey, in February, it will be seen that the salinity has dropped 3 per mile in the surface waters. In the deeper waters the situation is much as found previously.
