1 About the graphic design guidelines
This guidance focuses on the practical application of FAO’s visual identity and design standards when producing knowledge products for the Organization. Anyone involved in the design or layout of such products should follow the best practices outlined here.
1.1 The role of the graphic designer
As a graphic designer, you play a crucial role in effectively communicating knowledge and engaging an audience. It is therefore vital that you:
- Apply FAO branding correctly, following the FAO logo policy and guidelines.
- Ensure you understand the target audience, messages and goals of the publication.
- Use a clear design that ensures a logical visual flow of information.
- Highlight and guide readers’ attention to key messages through visual means.
- Ensure accessibility for people with visual or other impairments.
- Ensure that source files and final deliverables are prepared according to specifications and in compliance with these guidelines.
- Seek feedback from the authoring team throughout the design and layout process.
