MeetingConsultation on potential risks of pandemic influenza A (H1N1) 2009 virus at the human-animal interface
Scientific teleconference
2009Also available in:
No results found. The global transmission of the pandemic influenza A (H1N1) 2009 virus continues to occur through person-to-person contact. Joint statements have been made by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about the safety of pork and pork products. Some questions may remain, however, about the potential risk to human health through contact with pigs potentially infected with this virus and their products from p rimary production to consumer. At the time of this Consultation, the pandemic (H1N1) 2009 virus had been confirmed in one swine herd in Canada. While food safety issues are not normally raised on a global level when human infections with what appears to be a swine influenza virus occur, given the current public health context it is essential to base ongoing decisions on the most current and accurate science available. -
