Project Code: GCP/LEB/030/CAN
2024Also available in:
No results found. The project, implemented between March 2019 and September 2023, aimed to empower women's cooperatives and producer associations in Lebanon’s agrifood sector. Initiated by FAO at the request of Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture, the project sought to improve women's economic empowerment, contributing to local economic growth and social stability. FAO focused on capacity-building and training, integrating 150 women’s groups into local value chains. The project also sought to strengthen Lebanon’s Ministry of Agriculture’s Directorate of Cooperatives ability to manage and monitor cooperatives in Lebanon. The evaluation highlighted the project’s adaptability amidst challenges, such as COVID-19 and Lebanon’s economic crisis. Awareness campaigns, capacity-building efforts, and cash grant disbursements were successful, but there is room for improvement in data generation. Recommendations for future initiatives include refining the monitoring framework, continue supporting government entities, and improving oversight of local partners. Further efforts are needed to ensure long-term impact and support for vulnerable women’s groups. -

No results found. The importance of good statistical data and its analysis in the national development of countries is seldom appreciated. In order to make progress in alleviating poverty, benchmarks to measure progress need to be established. National capacities in data collection and statistical analysis need to be strengthened to provide decision-makers with accurate information. T his workshop, held in Nadi, Fiji from 10 to 13 November 2003, focused on ways to measure food security and poverty in the Pacific and, specifically, to assist countries in formulating and utilizing a food and agricultural statistics system in the framework of an integrated system of agricultural statistics. -
DocumentLebanon: Lebanon Country Programming Framework 2012-2015 2012
Also available in:
No results found. This Country Programming Framework (CPF) has been prepared in order to revisit past technical cooperation between FAO and Lebanon in light of the changes in the global food and agriculture system and the changed circumstances of FAO and Lebanon. The view of the recent Independent External Evaluation of FAO underlies this work, that the Organization must consider becoming more of a facilitator or knowledge manager to assist informed decision-making where the neutrality of FAO gives it an absolute comparative advantage. It should also be acknowledged that the limited resources of FAO must be complemented by carefully targeted investments from other international as well as domestic sources.
