2023Also available in:
No results found. In 2022, the Government of Sweden, through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, contributed nearly SEK 141 million (USD 14.5 million) to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Thanks to this support, FAO implemented 18 projects from 1 January 2022 to 31 May 2023 centred on scaling up agricultural support to communities affected by crises across ten countries, including Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Colombia, Madagascar, Mali, the Niger, Nigeria, Somalia, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Through these projects, FAO delivered emergency agricultural assistance to support smallholder farmers and local food production – an integral source of livelihoods for rural communities and a bedrock of global food security. -
DocumentMonitoring food security in countries with conflict situations: A joint FAO/WFP update for the United Nations Security Council (July 2016)
Food Security Updates: July 2016
2016Also available in:
No results found. This document is a collection of briefs on countries in which food security has been affected by conflict and other crises. Here is an overview of some key numbers: people in conflict affected states are up to three times more likely to be undernourished than those who are living in more stable developing countries. The most recent projections suggest that approximately half of the global poor now live in states characterized by conflict and violence. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) have a strong interest, and a potentially important role to play, in supporting transitions towards peace. -

2022Also available in:
No results found. The report provides a comprehensive, cross-country analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on agrifood systems in 15 countries and territories experiencing food crisis. The cross-country analysis is based on individual country profiles and findings that are generally valid across the countries. Each country profile describes the policy measures enacted by governments, development and humanitarian partners to contain the virus, including measures taken to protect the functioning of agri-food systems from major disruptions. The profiles assess the effects of such measures on agrifood systems and vulnerable groups, including long-term implications and the investments necessary to make agrifood systems more resilient in future. The report is structured around key messages and findings that are generally valid across the profiles. Examples are used to illustrate some of the policy measures, their impacts and lessons learned.
