No results found.This document contains the report of the Sixth Annual Meeting of the Aquaculture Network for Africa (ANAF), which was held in Entebbe, Uganda, from 6 to 9 December 2017. The participants addressed and made decisions on matters concerning relevant follow-up to the Fifth ANAF annual meeting. The meeting was attended by the ANAF National Focal Points and Legal Officers from twelve member countries, one representative of AU-IBAR, one consultant from the ANAF Hub, one representative from FAO Regional Office for Africa, one FAO Aquaculture Officer, one FAO Legal consultant and representatives of LVFO. National Legal Officers attending the meeting reviewed the legal founding documents for establishing ANAF as an Intergovernmental organization (IGO). In parallel, the ANAF National Focal Points discussed alternative options for the establishment of ANAF and prepared a concept note to be presented and discussed at the national level. The National Focal Points will explore if their countries migh t host ANAF Secretariat or whether they would prefer ANAF to be integrated as a unit within AU-IBAR structure. The delegations attending the Seventeenth CIFAA Session in The Gambia at the beginning of May 2017, will report on the decision taken in term of the two above-mentioned options. -

No results found.The technical meeting and training on the Aquaculture Network for Africa (ANAF) Web site: data collection and dissemination tools” was held at the Paradise Hotel in Jinja, Uganda, from 22 to 25 November 2011. The objectives were to: (i) hold a one-day discussion with the responsible officers of the existing regional networks/information systems to strengthen collaboration; (ii) provide training to the ANAF Regional Centre staff and National Focal Points on the ANAF Web site; (iii) provide an overview on spatial tools including emerging issues and applications for aquaculture planning and management in the region and hands-on training on spatial tools for collecting, managing and disseminating national aquaculture statistics; and (iv) present major data or information gaps for assessing and monitoring the aquaculture sector performance in sub-Saharan Africa. Participants contributed directly by giving a short presentation at the meeting and taking part in the structured discussions. The meeting was attended by 16 aquaculture experts from nine sub-Saharan countries. The meeting concluded with the identification of follow-up activities to: (i) upload a minimum set of data and information for the ANAF Web site and a work plan for the ANAF Web site and other ANAF related activities for 2012. -

No results found.This document contains the report of the Fifth Annual Meeting of the Aquaculture Network for Africa (ANAF), which was held in Dakar, Senegal, from 11 to 13 September 2013. The participants addressed and made decisions on matters concerning relevant follow-up to the fourth ANAF meeting. The meeting was attended by the ANAF National Focal Points from ten member countries, one representative from NEPAD, one representative AU-IBAR, one consultant from the ANAF Hub, one representatives from FAO Sub R egional Office for Eastern Africa, and two FAO Aquaculture Officers and two FAO consultants. The meeting reviewed the process of establishing ANAF as an Intergovernmental organization (IGO). The meeting discussed on three key themes: (i) identify prospective hosting governments of ANAF and propose a schedule of government contributions; (ii) develop a three-year ANAF Work Programme and Budget; (iii) Draft ANAF Founding Agreement along with legal framework. During the session, two Working Groups were established and finalized their results. These results describe the measures that ANAF member countries shall take in order to turn the ANAF into an Intergovernmental Organization. The participants agreed on the criteria for host country selection. They defined the obligations for and recognized the benefits to host country. They developed the general and specific objectives and functions of ANAF. Moreover, they agreed: to complete the task of elaborating a regional work plan based on commo n priorities included in the national plans of ANAF Member countries; and to determine a budget estimate and options for funding. With respect to the IGO legal framework, the participants agreed to propose a draft of the ANAF Founding Agreement, followed by the ANAF Headquarters Agreement to be presented to the next CAMFA meeting in 2014; they required ANAF Focal Points to consult with the legal department of the Ministry in order to identify national legal procedures to present and adopt intern ational agreements; and they agreed to prepare an explanatory note for the CAMFA meeting to highlight the benefits of having an IGO.
