Synopsis (short abstract) This Food Security Toolkit, designed specifically for Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs), aims to improve Pacific Islanders’ ability to produce and access safe and nutritious foods that meet their dietary and cultural needs. Targeting food security in the Pacific region is a critical action in the face of climate change, which will continue to place added pressure on existing food and water resources. The ultimate aim of the toolkit is to help ensure that Pacific Island communities continue to produce and have access to a wide range of nutritious food for the dinner plate and market place.

On 12 December 2015 in Paris, the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) concluded negotiations on a landmark agreement (the Paris Agreement1) to limit global average temperatures to below 2°C and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C. The Agreement will enter into force when it is ratified by at least 55 Parties that in aggregate account for at least 55 percent of total global emissions. The commitment period will commence in 2020 following the close of the extension period for the Kyoto Protocol and last at least until 2030.
