    Also available in:

The FAO Conference in 2017 endorsed the call to develop a rural youth action plan that addresses the importance of making rural areas more attractive for young women and men. Under the aegis of the Committee on Agriculture (COAG), the Rural Youth Action Plan (RYAP) was developed and presented at COAG’s Twenty- seventh Session in 2020. The Plan presents a five-year Action Plan (2021–2025), aligned to five thematic areas (or pillars) with the goal of contributing to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by equally empowering rural young women and men. The RYAP is embedded in FAO’s Medium Term Plan (2022–2025), and serves as a key performance indicator (KPI) for the cross cutting theme on youth.

“Support to Employment Creation in Mongolia” ( SECiM ) was implemented between February 2016 and June 2021. Its aim was to contribute to inclusive and sustainable development in Mongolia by promoting quality employment. SECiM had two components. The current project implemented Component 2, designed to create private sector employment in the livestock and vegetable sector value chains (VCs). FAO was responsible for activities to support employment and income opportunities in VCs for meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, and vegetables. In February 2018, UNIDO became responsible for the implementation of activities in the textile and leather VCs, and for the provision of technical inputs on large scale dairy plants and meat processing plants.

Boosting Decent Rural Employment through the Implementation of the Integrated Country Approach and Dimitra Clubs - FMM/GLO/122/MUL 2021

In recent years, FAO has implemented a number of projects to bolster decent rural employment (DRE) and to implement Dimitra Clubs (DCs) in many countries, thanks to funding provided by the Flexible Multi Partner Mechanism (FMM). Projects focusing on increasing DRE for youth in the agri food systems of targeted countries have utilized FAO’s Integrated Country Approach (ICA), which includes advocacy and communication activities, the provision of policy and strategy advice, technical support and capacity development, the generation of knowledge and the development of partnerships. Other projects have facilitated the implementation of DCs. These clubs take a bottom up, community driven approach to development by building the capacities of rural populations, particularly women, through the dissemination of information and the exchange of experiences. The goal of the DCs is to amplify the voices of rural women, so that their voices are heard at national and international level. In order to maintain and expand upon the significant results achieved by previous projects, this project was formulated to ensure continued coordination and technical support to DRE and DC activities, to mobilize further resources and to create partnerships for subsequent projects in these areas.
