Synopsis (short abstract) The Monthly Price Update is an information product provided by the oilseeds desk of the Markets and Trade Division of FAO. It reviews the development of international prices for oilseeds, oils and meals as reflected by FAO’s price indices. In March 2024, the FAO price indices for oilseeds and oilmeals continued to decline, whereas the vegetable oil price index rebounded markedly from the previous month. While the oilseed and oilmeal price indices stood, respectively, 13.4 and 24.2 percent below their year-earlier levels, the index for vegetable oils climbed to a one-year high.

    The Monthly Price Update is an information product provided by the oilseeds desk of the Markets and Trade Division of FAO. In April 2024, the FAO price indices for oilseeds and oilmeals both declined for the fifth consecutive month, whereas the vegetable oil price index marginally strengthened from the previous month. While the oilseed and oilmeal price indices remained markedly below their respective year-earlier levels, the index for vegetable oils stood 0.7 percent above its value of a year ago, marking the first year-on-year increase since August 2022.

In May 2024, the FAO price indices for oilseeds and oilmeals rebounded after declining continuously since December 2023. By contrast, the vegetable oil price index contracted from April following two months of strengthening. The indices for oilseeds and oilmeals remained moderately below their respective levels of a year ago, while the vegetable oil index stood 7.7 percent above its year-earlier level.

    The Monthly Price Update is an information product provided by the oilseeds desk of the Markets and Trade Division of FAO. It reviews the development of international prices for oilseeds, oils and meals as reflected by FAO’s price indices. In November 2023, all FAO price indices trailing the oilcrop complex increased from the previous month. While the oilseed and vegetable oil price indices remained below their respective year-earlier values, the price index for oilmeals stood nearly 8 percent above its November 2022 level.
