No results found.This publication reports the proceedings of the APFC session held in Nadi, Fiji from 19 to 23 April 2004. Representatives from 29 member countries participated in the session. The commission reviewed the state of forestry in the region, identified regional issues for the attention of the committee on forestry, and reported on the progress and implementation of APFC and FAO supported activities and initiatives. Two in-session seminars were held, one on exemplary forest management in the region an d a second on alternative forest management models, particularly those oriented towards achieving sustainability and alleviating poverty. The commission also presented and discussed two key issues: (i) the challenges of securing adequate financing for sustainable forest management and (ii) global, regional and bilateral forest-related agreements and arrangements – are regional agreements the way to go? The document lists a summary of the 35 recommendations made by the commission session on the t opics discussed.

No results found.This publication reports the proceedings of the twenty-fifth session of the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission (APFC) held in Rotorua, New Zealand from 5 to 8 November 2013. In line with the "forests for prosperity"� theme of the session, the Commission reported on recent initiatives in several countries to expand value-added wood processing, enhance wood recovery from forest resources, tap new market opportunities, develop payments for ecosystem services and create more jobs in the forestry secto r. Main themes considered were: sources of forest financing; forest law enforcement and governance; promoting opportunities presented by the growing awareness of links between forests and climate change; and mechanisms for capacity building, awareness raising and information sharing, among others. An in-session seminar highlighted the issue of building resilience in forests, landscapes and forest-dependent communities. Main recommendations are included in the report. -

No results found.At the invitation of the Australian Government, the Thirtieth Session of the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission (APFC) was held in Sydney, Australia from 3 to 6 October 2023, with a pre-Session Dialogue Day convened on 2 October 2023. The purpose of the commission was to advise on the formulation of forest policy and to review and coordinate its implementation on the regional scale; to exchange information and advise on suitable practices and action in regard to technical problems, and to make appropriate recommendations in relation to the foregoing.
