In the framework of the EU-RBA Joint Programme on Gender Transformative Approaches for Food Security and Nutrition (JP GTA), FAO, IFAD, WFP and the CGIAR GENDER Impact Platform developed “Guidelines for measuring gender transformative change in the context of food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture” aimed at enhancing the capacity of research and development partners to design, implement, monitor and evaluate gender transformative interventions. They include step-by-step guidance to formulate qualitative and quantitative indicators and present an overarching framework for measuring gender transformative change. The intended audience of these Guidelines includes gender experts and programme specialists seeking to design, implement, monitor and evaluate gender transformative interventions in food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture programmes and initiatives. This abbreviated “At a glance” version has been developed as a reference tool to introduce experts and practitioners to key concepts and messages from the Guidelines in a condensed format.

Guide to formulating gendered social norms indicators in the context of food security and nutrition 2022
    Also available in:

At present, there is no standard or validated set of social norms indicators for food security and nutrition, and there is a general lack of clear and practical guidance and examples of such indicators for these sectors. Seeking to contribute to filling this gap, this guide will assist with formulating indicators to measure changes in gendered social norms in the context of food security and nutrition. It also offers an initial set of example indicators that programme implementers can draw on to assess social norms change in the context of food security and nutrition programmes. It draws from existing indicators from literature and programme experiences around measuring social norms, including in other sectors, and creates original indicators as well. This guide is designed for programme formulators and implementers, and monitoring and evaluation specialists responsible for creating and implementing M&E frameworks and systems for food security, agriculture and nutrition programmes.

Youth networks and organizations of young farmers, producers and entrepreneurs play a central role as partners in development initiatives that target youth in rural and agrifood spaces. By understanding and applying gender‑transformative and socially inclusive approaches, youth organizations can become more equitable, accessible, impactful and pluralistic platforms that legitimately represent the heterogeneity of young people and amplify the voices of those most marginalized or those in situations of vulnerability. These guidelines are a practical tool for youth organizations to better understand gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) and their importance, offering a step-by-step methodology to self-assess main gaps and areas for improvement as the basis to embed inclusive approaches in their organizational practice.
