    Un des objectifs majeurs du Gouvernment camerounais, est de dvelopper son conomie de manire rationnelle et durable en vue d'atteindre l'autosuffisance alimentaire, et de dvelopper le bien-tre des populations en gnral. Le Secteur de la Pche constitue un pan important de l'conomie nationale en termes de contribution l'apport en protines animales, et devrait dans les prochaines annes continuer jouer ce rle. Actuellement, on estime que la production totale de la pche dans le pays est d'environ 123 000 t, dont 90% proviennent des pches artisanales maritimes et continentales. Nanmoins, les stocks halieutiques sont dj soumis un niveau d'exploitation important, particulirement les ressources marines. Seuls subsistent quelques rares stocks encore peu exploits, mais prsentant toutefois des possibilits de dveloppement limites. Par ailleurs, les pertes physiques aprs capture pourraient priver le pays de prs de 15% de la production artisanale, sans mentionner les pertes conomiques, diffi cilement quantifiables, rsultant des oprations de traitement et de stockage rudimentaires. Une autre priorit du gouvernement rside galement de ce fait dans la rduction des pertes aprs capture. Les mthodes de fumage, principaux modes de transformation des produits, sont extrmement consommatrices en bois de chauffage, contribuant ainsi la dgradation de l'environnement. La consommation excessive en bois brler s'observe tout particulirement dans les mangroves ctires o les communauts de pches son t trs concentres.

    La pche est une activit importante pour le Burundi aussi bien sur le plan conomique que sur le plan social: on estime que 1% de la population vit des revenus directs ou indirects de la pche; le poisson reprsente un apport considrable de protines animales (34% du total des protines animales consommes), son prix tant gnralement infrieur aux autres sources de protines animales. Les eaux intrieures sont constitues principalement par le Lac Tanganyika au sud-ouest (2.280 km2 au Burundi) et par Coho ha et Rweru au nord-est (140 km2 au Burundi). Au total la superficie des eaux au Burundi est de 2.500 km2.

    FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 2022
    The FAO Strategy on Climate Change 2022–2031 was endorsed by FAO Council in June 2022. This new strategy replaces the previous strategy from 2017 to better FAO's climate action with the Strategic Framework 2022-2031, and other FAO strategies that have been developed since then. The Strategy was elaborated following an inclusive process of consultation with FAO Members, FAO staff from headquarters and decentralized offices, as well as external partners. It articulates FAO's vision for agrifood systems by 2050, around three main pillars of action: at global and regional level, at country level, and at local level. The Strategy also encourages key guiding principles for action, such as science and innovation, inclusiveness, partnerships, and access to finance.

    This document was prepared within the framework of the FAO’s Strategic Objective 1 (SO1): Help eliminate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition. This document served as a background paper to present the status of policy mainstreaming and policy research for the improvement of policy development in aquaculture in support of food security, nutrition and poverty eradication. The document was presented in various African fora and received the validation of the stakeholders for its publication as part of policy research. Specifically, the paper was presented and included the inputs from the Consultative Meeting on Aquaculture Policy Development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 3 to 4 December 2018, 37th SADC Fisheries and Aquaculture technical meeting in Windhoek and the Consultative meeting on “improving policy development in aquaculture in support of food security, nutrition and poverty eradication” held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 10 to 14 June 2019. This research report includes recommendations by the stakholders to guide the mainstreaming of fisheries and aquaculture within wider policy frameworks, for the formulation and implementation of technical programmes for enhanced food security and nutrition at country and regional level in Africa.
