Synopsis (short abstract) FAN 35, a special issue, is dedicated to the Third Session of the Sub-Committee on Aquaculture (SCA, September 2006, India). The editorial talks about aquaculture and Africa's development. Eight articles are presented on SCA's role in aquaculture development, aquaculture at its turning point, aquaculture insurance, GIS, risk analysis, aquaculture glossary, aquaculture statistics, and FAO's fisheries library and aquaculture gateway page. News about FAO workshops (aquatic genetic resources, compar ative environmental costs of aquaculture and other food production systems, microfinance, feed and fertilizers), projects (giant clam broodstock in Samoa, TCP/RAS/3101, TCP/RLA/3003, TCP/BRA/3001, TCP/CHI/3002) and the 5th GFCM meeting are also presented.

    Aquaculture certification is the subject of FAN 36 editorial. FAN 36 presents the outcomes of SCA's 3rd Session held in India in September 2006.     FAN 37 editorial talks about Information: a must for responsible aquaculture.     The twenty-fourth session of the European Inland Fisheries Advisory Commission (EIFAC) was held in Mondsee, Austria, from 14 to 21 June 2006, in concomitance with a Symposium on Hydropower, Flood Control and Water Abstraction: Implications for Fish and Fisheries. The session reviewed EIFAC’s activities since 2004 in the fields of fishery biology and management, aquaculture, protection of the aquatic environment, and social and economic issues. EIFAC revised and decided its future programme of wo rk, in particular the activities which should be carried out until the next session of the Commission in 2008.
