    Sustainable Public Food Procurement (PFP) represents a key game changer for food systems transformation. It can influence both food consumption and food production patterns. It can deliver multiple social, economic, and environmental benefits towards sustainable food systems for healthy diets. This publication aims to contribute to the improved understanding, dissemination, and use of PFP as a development tool in particular in the case of school meals programmes. In this Volume 2, researchers, policymakers, and development partners can find extensive evidence of the instruments, enablers, and barriers for PFP implementation. It also provides case studies with local, regional, and national experiences from Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America. Volume 1 of this publication, available at https://doi.org/10.4060/cb7960en, presents further analysis on how PFP can be used as a development tool and deliver multiple benefits for multiple beneficiaries. It argues that PFP can provide a market for local and smallholder farmers, promote the conservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity, and improve the nutrition and health of children and communities.

    This book aims to contribute the knowledge and understanding of nutritional impact of food systems. Focus is also be given to food systems elements status identification, policy analysis to examine potential effects of different policy options throughout the food system, in particular policies in agriculture, food marketing and trade, social protection, gender, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) on food industry, nutrition, and environment and education etc. Good practice and lessons learnt to strengthen the beneficiary countries’ evidence-base for addressing nutrition related challenges from the food system perspective.

    FAO supported the CONSAN-CPLP by carrying out two bottom-up pilot initiatives in selected territories of Cabo Verde and Sao Tome and Principe. As a result, this document was prepared [as a collaboration between the Food and Nutrition Division (ESN) and the Inclusive Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division (ESP)] with the intention to disseminate major findings and mobilize other countries and regions to inform relevant territorial actors. The main objective of the policy brief is to show how territorial approaches can be applied to produce a participatory diagnosis of local food systems. More specifically, the objectives will be to: 1) capitalize on the experiences implemented by the Community of Portuguese-speaking countries (CPLP); 2) document the countries' experience and the main results and lessons learned from a participatory territorial analysis at the local level.; and 3) present recommendations for the CPLP multi-level food systems governance architecture
