La Commission européenne consultative pour les pêches dans les eaux intérieures (CECPI) a tenu sa vingt-deuxième session à Windermere (Royaume-Uni) du 12 au 19 juin 2002, parallèlement à un Symposium sur la gestion des pêches intérieures et l’environnement aquatique. Elle a passé en revue les activités menées par la CECPI depuis 2000 dans les domaines de la biologie et de l'aménagement des pêches, de l'aquaculture, de la protection des ressources aquatiques et en ce qui concerne les questions éc onomiques et sociales. La CECPI a procédé à la révision de son règlement intérieur et a décidé de son futur programme de travail, notamment des activités qui devraient être menées avant sa prochaine session, prévue pour l'an 2004 en Pologne et qui sera précédée d'un symposium sur Développement de l’aquaculture: Partenariat entre les scientifiques et les associations de producteurs.

However, less attention is being paid to the biodiversity beneath our feet, soil biodiversity, which drives many processes that produce food or purify soil and water. This report is the result of an inclusive process involving more than 300 scientists from around the world under the auspices of the FAO’s Global Soil Partnership and its Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Global Soil Biodiversity Initiative, and the European Commission. It presents concisely the state of knowledge on soil biodiversity, the threats to it, and the solutions that soil biodiversity can provide to problems in different fields. It also represents a valuable contribution to raising awareness of the importance of soil biodiversity and highlighting its role in finding solutions to today's global threats. -
