    The second regional workshop on Caribbean B illfish Management and Conservation of the WECAFC/OSPESCA/CRFM/CFMC Working Group on Recreational Fisheries was held in Panama City, Panama, from 9 to 11 November 2015. 53 experts attended the workshop from 19 Caribbean countries and territories as well as from different organizations and projects. Preliminary findings of six field and desk stREudiPes O wRTer e presented and discussed on the status of Caribbean billfish stocks and fisheries, the value of billfish recreational and commercial fisheries, on rights based approaches in recreational and commercial fisheries, the national legal frameworks for fisheries in the Caribbean and on the applica tion of the WECAFC Manual on Assessment of the Economic Impact of Recreational Fisheries in The Bahamas and Martinique. Other presentations included in the report comprised the first outline of the table of contents, and of possible regional management measures, to be included in the Caribbean Reg ional Billfish Management and Conservation Plan. The report d escribes the selection procedure of the two pilot countries to test and validate co-management arrangements and right based approaches, and participants revised the Terms of Reference of th e Working Group on Recreational Fisheries and elected its Convener. The accomplished work wa s under the guidance and supervision of FAO’s Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC) with the support of the Caribbean Billfish Project GCP/S LC/001/WBK.

    This is the report of the second (virtual) Meeting of the WECAFC/CITES/OSPESCA/CRFM/CFMC Working Group on Sharks Conservation and Management from 20 to 22 October 2021. The WECAFC delegates from 11 member states - The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Colombia, the European Union (Member Organization), Grenada, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States of America - and nine partner organizations took part in the deliberations on the development of a Regional Plan of Action (RPOA) for the Conservation and Management of Sharks in the WECAFC Area. El presente documento es el informe de la segunda reunión (virtual) del Grupo de Trabajo COPACO/CITES/OSPESCA/CRFM/CFMC sobre la Conservación y Ordenación del Tiburón celebrada del 20 al 22 de octubre de 2021. Delegados de la COPACO de 11 Estados miembros - las Bahamas, Barbados, Belice, Colombia, los Estados Unidos de América, Granada, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Trinidad y Tabago y la Unión Europea (organización miembro) – y de nueve organizaciones asociadas tomaron parte en las deliberaciones sobre la preparación de un Plan de Acción Regional para la Conservación y la Ordenación del Tiburón en la Zona de Competencia de la COPACO.

    The Third Regional Workshop on Caribbean Billfish Management and Conservation of the WECAFC/OSPESCA/CRFM/CFMC Working Group on Recreational Fisheries was held in Bridgetown, Barbados, from 4 to 6 April 2017. Thirty-five representatives from thirteen Caribbean countries and territories, along with various organizations and projects, attended the workshop. Information about the values represented by billfish stocks in the Caribbean was presented and discussed in pursuit of solutions to increase th e value of these resources for the Caribbean states. Successful billfish capture and stock value conservation examples were presented and discussed, as were the policy, legislative and management contexts within which billfish fisheries currently takes place in the region. The latest stock assessment data were presented, which illustrated stock declines and the current level of fisheries pressure on the stocks. A third draft of the Caribbean Billfish Management and Conservation Plan was discusse d, as was the draft Subregional FAD Management Plan. Business case opportunities sought through the Caribbean Billfish Project were also clarified. A draft WECAFC management recommendation was prepared by the Working Group, recognizing the concerns over billfish stock status, the current fisheries pressure on these stocks and proposing regional concerted action. Participants revised the Terms of Reference pertaining to the Working Group on Recreational Fisheries, updated the work plan and electe d its convener. The workshop was carried out under the guidance and supervision of the FAO Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC) with support of the Caribbean Billfish Project GCP/SLC/001/WBK.
