No results found.A total of 33 participants (10 women) participated in the Regional Rice Initiative – Workshop cum Study Tour on knowledge exchange on Farmer Field School curriculum development for promotion of efficient rice farming practices and value chains. Field visits were made to Sleman (Rice-Fish farming and “jajar legowo”) and Boyalali (organic rice value chains) organized by FAO Indonesia in collaboration with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and the international civil society organization Vredeseilanden (VECO) and its local partner CSO Aliansi Petani Padi Organik Boyolali (APOLLI). Following the study tour, the regional workshop was held to: (1) facilitate the regional exchange of knowledge and experiences on sustainable intensification of rice production, including Rice-Fish farming systems and rice value chains; and (2) take stock of Farmer Field School curricula currently available, introduce the FFS Guidance Document and identify opportunities for strengthening of the FFS cu rricula. The participants included representatives from government and civil society organization implementing partners and principal investigators engaged in results assessment in pilot RRI-Phase 2 countries (Indonesia, Lao PDR and Philippines). Results of the assessment studies will be communicated to national and local government for informing policy and for mobilization of funding support for up-scaling of the RRI Farmers Field Schools on Save and Grow-Sustainable Intensification of Rice Pro duction. -

The South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) Capacity Development and Experience sharing for Rice Value Chain targets rice value-related national training, research, and extension institutions, as well as smallholder farmers, millers, traders, and national rice experts in Tanzania, Côte d’Ivoire and The Philippines.

No results found.The livestock sector is one of the fastest-growing subsectors in agriculture. Its development has greatly contributed to economic growth and poverty reduction in Southeast Asia. At the same time, the unprecedented increase in emerging and re-emerging animal diseases has had a profound impact on animal productivity and production in the region and on the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. This publication reports on the outcome of a conference on the environmental animal health management initi ative (EAHMI) for enhanced smallholder production in Southeast Asia convened in Makati City, Philippines from 18 to 19 September 2014. The conference included a plenary session, five technical sessions and a poster gallery exhibit to showcase best practices and lessons learned in use of environmental animal health management strategies in the region and the way forward. -

社会保護と農業―農村貧困の悪循環を断つ
2018貧困と飢餓の削減を掲げたミレニアム開発目標の取り組みでは、大きな 前進が見られたものの、世界では今なお10億人近くが極度の貧困(1日当 たり1.25ドル未満)の中で暮らし、7億9,500万人が慢性的な飢餓に苦し む。2030年までに貧困と飢餓の根絶を目指す新たな「持続可能な開発目 標」の実現には、更なる取り組みが必要だ。最貧層の多くは途上国の農村 部に暮らし、生計を農業に依存している。こうした人々は、貧困による栄 養失調が甚だしく、貧困が親から子へと世代を超えて引き継がれる負の 連鎖に陥っている。 多くの途上国は、こうした農村部の貧困の連鎖を断ち切るために、社会保 護と農業開発を組み合わせた新たな戦略を取り入れ、成果を上げている。 寡婦や孤児への給付金や、公共事業による貧困層への雇用保証といった 社会保護策は、こうした社会的・経済的弱者を深刻な困窮状態から救う ことができる。社会保護により、世帯は食料消費を増やし、食事を多様化 することができる。また、自分の土地での農業生産や新たな事業の立ち上 げのために、貯蓄や投資をすることもできる。農業開発プログラムは、 小規模家族農家が市場にアク セスしたり、リスクを管理するのを支援し、 雇用機会を創出することで、こうした家庭の自立を促し、レジリエンス (強靭性)を強化する。社会保護と農業振興を組み合わせ、一体的に取り 組むことで、農村部における貧困の連鎖を断ち切ることが可能となる。
