No results found.Diet is one of the single most important contributors to health, but also to disease. Food-Based Dietary Guidelines (FBDGs) provide information on healthy eating and lifestyle aimed at preventing all forms of malnutrition, including noncommunicable diet-related diseases and keeping people well-nourished and healthy. The FBDGs is a fruit of joint efforts and collaboration made by mainly four institutions: the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL), the Ministry of Education (MoE), and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The development, promotion and dissemination of FBDGs for Afghans is an important part of the strategy of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) for improving the nutritional status of the Afghan population. Its realization is in accordance with the Ministry's mission of improving the health and nutritional status of the Afghan people. The aim is to achieve this in an equitable and sustainable manner, through the provision of quality health services, advocacy for the development of healthy environments and living conditions, and the promotion of healthy eating and lifestyles. -

No results found.These are Food-Based Dietary Guidelines (FBDGs) that define what a healthy diet means to Zambians. FBDGs are evidence-based recommendations that give advice on foods, food groups and dietary patterns that will provide the required nutrients to the public to promote overall nutrition, health and prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The FBDGs recommendations are accompanied by a series of nutrition messages and related visual illustrations, which represent what a healthy diet means targeting the public. FBDGs establish a basis for public food and nutrition, health and agricultural policies and nutrition education programmes to foster healthy eating habits and lifestyles. The development followed the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO) ten-step systematic process. The Zambia Ministry of Agriculture led the development process with technical support from FAO through a TCP. About 44 members of the multi-sector technical working group represented by 21 government and non-government institutions were part of the FBDGs development process. -

Although their effectiveness has been questioned, at the same time, their potential role to help transform food systems towards better nutrition and environmental sustainability has been highlighted in recent years. This document is a brief introduction to the new food systems-based dietary guidelines (FSBDGs) methodology developed by FAO, which not only aims to address health and nutritional priorities but takes a food system approach to promote healthy diets, by considering socio-cultural, economic, and environmental sustainability.
