No results found.The Expert Meeting on Harmonizing Forest-related Definitions for Use by Various Stakeholders was jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), in collaboration with the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), at FAO Headquarters, in Rome, from 23 to 25 January 2002. The objective of the meeting was to start a process to review, improve, where feasible, and interrelate forest-related definitions, in particular biome-specific forest definitions, and definitions for the terms forest degradation and devegetation. -

No results found.Barely nine months ago, FAO, IPCC, IUFRO and CIFOR convened the first Expert Meeting on Harmonizing Forest-related Definitions for Use by Various Stakeholders. The objective of the process then started was to harmonize forest-related definitions taking into consideration not only the viewpoints of climate change and forest resources assessments, but also those of biodiversity conservation and forest management. It was hoped that harmonization would contribute to improved communication and facili tate data exchange on forest-related issues between countries and organizations, on one hand, and help reduce the reporting burden on countries, on the other. -
