    This document contains the report of the third meeting of the Regional Commission for Fisheries (RECOFI) Working Group on Fisheries Management (WGFM), which was held in Doha, Qatar, from 20 to 22 October 2009. The Working Group addressed and made decisions on important issues including the outcomes of the fifth session of the Commission relating to the future work of the WGFM, consideration of the programme of work and budget for the biennium 2009–2010 in relation to the activities of the WGFM, review of the outcomes of the FAO/RECOFI Regional Workshop to Combat Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing and implications for future work of the WGFM, a proposal by the Sultanate of Oman to develop a RECOFI record of IUU fishing violations, a report on the outcomes of the tripartite meeting between three RECOFI Members, review of the findings of the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Circular relating to fisheries laws of certain RECOFI Members, review of the outco mes of the RECOFI Workshop on Stock Status Reporting, consideration of a draft fisheries management measure to be adopted by RECOFI at its sixth session in 2011 and any other matters. Significantly the resolution on minimum data reporting to be addressed at the fourth session of the WGFM in December 2010 will be the Commission’s first resolution.

    This document contains the report of the tenth meeting of the Regional Commission for Fisheries (RECOFI) Working Group on Fisheries Management (WGFM) which was held in Doha, State of Qatar, from 6 to 8 December 2016. The tenth meeting of the Regional Commission for Fisheries (RECOFI) Working Group on Fisheries Management (WGFM) was held in Doha, State of Qatar from 6 to 8 December 2016. The meeting was convened by RECOFI and FAO and attended by 11 participants from five RECOFI member countries ( Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and UAE) in addition to the FAO Secretariat and one invited expert. Participants provided updates of the current work ongoing at the national level with regards to the RECOFI priority species, and discussed data collection challenges. The WGFM reviewed the progress on the socio-economic work for RECOFI, and agreed that the socio-economic Task Group members must be updated, as well as the information provided in the socio-economic questionnaire. The WGFM took note that the general situation regarding the capacity of RECOFI members to report catch and effort information as defined in the Recommendation had slightly improved and acknowledged the progress that had been made regarding the integration of the current RECOFI regional data set into RAIS. The WGFM took note and considered the content and conclusions of the draft RECOFI review and noted with concern the low level of RECOFI members’attendance at intersessional meetings and workshops. The WGFM ackno wledged the benefits of developing FIRMS Marine Resources for the RECOFI region and recommended the initiation of the process focusing on the Spanish mackerel and shrimps as priority species. The meeting acknowledged with appreciation the efforts of the Secretariat for pursuing cooperation with ROPME, in particular considering the potential for mutual benefits of this cooperation for both organizations and their members. The WGFM agreed on a programme of work and budget for 2017–2018 to be submi tted at the ninth session of RECOFI for consideration.

    The seventh meeting of the Working Group on Aquaculture (WGA) of the Regional Commission for Fisheries (RECOFI) was held in Doha, the State of Qatar, from 26 to 28 April 2016 and was attended by the representatives from six Member countries. The WGA reviewed the outcome and recommendations of the eighth session of the Commission and took note that the recommendation on Minimum Reporting on Aquaculture Data and Information was adopted. The meeting agreed on a series of preliminary actions deemed necessary for the timely implementation of the recommendation which included the preparation, testing and adoption of a tailored questionnaire. The outcome and recommendations of the regional WGA training course on risk analysis on live aquatic animal introductions and of the round-table meeting the RECOFI regional aquatic biosecurity programme were reviewed. The WGA agreed on the necessity to establish an ad hoc biosecurity task force, which would technical follow-up on all the aquatic animal h ealth issues. WGA recommended that a regional set of cage site-selection criteria be prepared for adoption. With reference to the Regional Aquaculture Information System (RAIS), the meeting noted that stronger efforts were needed to ensure that the information system provides the intended services to the sector.
