Book (series)How can animal health systems support small-scale poultry producers and traders? Reflections on experience with HPAI. 2012
Also available in:
No results found. This paper builds on lessons learned from the world’s reaction to HPAI in order to identify ways in which animal health systems may better include smallholders in disease monitoring, surveillance and control activities both in “peace time” and in emergency situations. It argues that only by fully engaging poultry keepers can the negative impacts of disease be reduced. However, this is not a trivial enterprise and calls for re-drawing the map of animal health institutions. -
Brochure, flyer, fact-sheetCOVID-19: Coordinating from an animal health perspective during a human pandemic 2020
Also available in:
No results found.FAO's Emergency Management Centre for Animal Health (EMC-AH) activated an Incident Coordination Group (ICG) in January 2020 to coordinate and monitor the COVID-19 event from an animal health perspective. The ICG comprises participants from several partner organizations, and FAO regional and country offices. Due to the added threat of COVID-19 among people already facing food insecurity, and those in situations that threaten their livelihoods, monitoring the evolution of the event and contributing to international response coordination efforts, with a focus on animal health, is essential to protecting vulnerable populations and ensuring good communication between all relevant parties. This one pager summarises the activities of, and explains the background to, the COVID-19 ICG, which continues to meet vitually on a weekly basis. -
