    كشفت جائحة كوفيد-19 مدى هشاشة النظم الزراعية والغذائية أمام الصدمات وحالات الإجهاد وأفضت إلى ازدياد انعدام الأمن الغذائي وسوء التغذية في العالم. ولا بد من اتخاذ إجراءات لجعل النظم الزراعية والغذائية أكثر قدرة على الصمود وكفاءة واستدامة وشمولاً. يعرض تقرير حالة الأمن الغذائي والتغذية لعام 2021 مؤشرات على المستوى القطري لقدرة النظم الزراعية والغذائية على الصمود. وتقيس هذه المؤشرات مدى متانة الإنتاج الأولي وتوافر الأغذية إضافة إلى الحصول المادي والاقتصادي على الأغذية. ومن شأن هذه المؤشرات بالتالي أن تساعد في تقييم قدرة النظم الزراعية والغذائية الوطنية على استيعاب الصدمات وحالات الإجهاد وهو جانب رئيسي من جوانب الصمود. ويجري التقرير تحليلاً لحالات الضعف في سلاسل القيمة الغذائية وكيفية تعاطي الأسر المعيشية الريفية مع المخاطر والصدمات. ويبحث في الخيارات المتاحة للحد قدر المستطاع من المقايضات التي قد تنجم عن بناء القدرة على الصمود مع الكفاءة والشمول. والغرض من ذلك هو إعطاء توجيهات بشأن السياسات من أجل تعزيز قدرة سلاسل الإمدادات الغذائية على الصمود ودعم سبل العيش في النظم الزراعية والغذائية وضمان الحصول المستدام على أغذية كافية وآمنة ومغذية للجميع، في ظلّ الاختلالات.

    In the race to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and attain the aspirations of the Agenda 2063 and the 2025 Malabo Goals of the African Union, young men and women are the key drivers in our combined efforts to reach the finish line on time. The 2014 AU Malabo Summit reconfirmed that agricultural transformation should remain high on the development agenda of the continent, emphasizing its instrumentality for an inclusive growth. The youth play important roles in promoting economic growth and shared prosperity in their communities and countries. Their energy, resourcefulness and optimism are powerful catalysts for them to be important contributors of change and development. Yet, there are a number of challenges to be met in order for them to play these roles and realize their potentials. This maiden issue of NUUS, Field Stories from Africa, highlights some of the stories on youth’s successes and their ability to navigate fluidly through challenges. These narratives come from across the region, and they are powerful testimonies of what great ideas and hard work can accomplish.

    This Marketing Report presents the results of FAO’s Multi-Partner Programme Support Mechanism (FMM) achievements from 2014 to 2017. It demonstrates clearly that the FMM contributed to the Organization’s successful delivery of tangible results in countries and brought about other important benefits in terms of innovation, catalytic effects and stimulation of cross-sectoral work. The Report further highlights how FAO, through the FMM, has successfully leveraged its capabilities, both at a global and country level. The flexible funding mechanism of the FMM has proven to be a catalytic force in addressing critical funding gaps, forging new partnerships, testing and scaling up innovative areas of work and designing bigger and more impactful initiatives. The results presented here not only highlight the benefits of FAO’s global normative work and knowledge products, but also the relevance of the FMM to empowering a large number of smallholders, especially rural women and youth, enhancing resilience to climate shocks, generating farm and off-farm incomes and meeting livelihood needs.
