    Doctors Global Programme – A farmer-to-farmer training programme

    The Soil Doctors programme is developed under the umbrella of the Global Soil Partnership and promotes the establishment of a farmer-to-farmer training system. The Soil Doctors Global Programme aims to build the capacity of smallholder farmers on the practice of sustainable soil management and, by doing so, support governmental agencies and organizations working on agricultural extension at the field level (promoting broader impact and a reduction of costs). Trainings will also rely on the establishment of demonstration farms and experimental fields by the Soil Doctors, which might attract the interest of research institutes and universities involved in the programme. The programme also aims to educate farmers on soil science principles for practices of sustainable soil management and aims to achieve this by providing them with a set of tools composed of some educational materials and a soil testing methods (STM) manual for preliminary soil analysis. The STM is a collection of locally relevant, and easy to use, soil analyses procedures that would be selected by each area where the program is implemented.

    Poučavanje mladih o vrijednosti hrane, u nastojanjima da se smanji njeno bacanje, ima veliki utjecaj napromjenu ponašanja potrebnog za zaustavljanje problema sada i u budućnosti. “ČINI DOBRO: ČUVAJ HRANU!” obrazovni je paket osmišljen za tu svrhu. Ovaj obrazovni paket rezultatje opsežnog znanstvenog i inkluzivnog razvojnog postupka koji je obuhvaćao pribavljanje informacijaod dionika iz javnog i privatnog sektora. Paket je odgovor na rastuću potražnju za informacijama ouzrocima i rješenjima vezanim za bacanje hrane te služi za uključivanje djece u svjetske naporeusmjerene na smanjenje bacanja hrane i ublažavanje povezanih gospodarski, ekoloških i društvenihutjecaja. Paket predočava holističku perspektivu prehrambenih sustava uz načine komunikacije i alate koji suprikladni za senzibiliziranje djece za te probleme; osmišljen je kako bi učitelji i odgajatelji mogli odabratii implementirati dijelove za koje smatraju da su najprimjereniji. Osim toga, paket sadrži primjere isavjete o tome kako djeca mogu postati aktivni “čuvari hrane” i nositelji promjena prenošenjem porukasvojim obiteljima i prijateljima.

    FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) is one of the mechanisms to respond to countries’ most pressing needs for technical assistance and effectively pursue the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 2019 Report of the Technical Cooperation Programme introduces a new series of annual reports that provide FAO Members, governments, donors, beneficiaries and other stakeholders with evidence of the impact of the work carried out by FAO through the TCP. Prepared by the Outreach, Marketing and Reporting Unit (PSRR), in close collaboration with the TCP Coordination Unit in the Office of the Assistant Director-General (ADG-PS), the first in the series presents and assesses the achievements and catalytic role of TCP-funded projects. Based on a review of the TCP projects operationally closed during 2018 and interviews with lead technical officers, technical officers at FAO headquarters, budget holders and FAO country representatives, the report provides details on the characteristics, typical interventions and results of the programme, and features a select number of in-depth stories to highlight the tangible and lasting results of the programme’s catalytic work.
