No results found.The case studies presented here have been developed through a set of training workshops in Nepal with engineers and managers from the Department of Irrigation (DOI) and the Department of Agriculture (DOA) in 2003 and 2006. The report has several purposes: ?produce food for thought for decision-makers in Nepal before engaging in investment plans, particularly on how to ensure that diagnosis and solutions are investigated properly in modernization projects; ?suggest some specific strategies to managers of the two systems investigated on how they should undertake modernization of the management; ?introduce the MASSCOT exercise to a large audience through real-case application. -

No results found.The central message which emerges from this meeting was that modernization is above all an issue of human-ware. It is quite noteworthy to see that, although most participants to the meeting were engineers, almost every paper and almost all questions and points of discussion dealt with institutional, development and sociological issues and were not focussed on techniques. The issue of human-ware can be further expanded into complementary directions. -

No results found.The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018. -

No results found.This publication is the result of a joint effort by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) in producing a Handbook on small hydraulic structures and devices used in open- channel irrigation distribution systems. There has been general recognition of a need to review the abundant information and experience available on the subject and to condense and dovetail them into a comprehensive and practical Handb ook. Much basic material for the Handbook has been generously provided by National Committees of the ICID and by FAO projects and contacts in Member Countries, while complementary data and information have been assembled from the extensive survey of the literature.
