    The Fifth Session of the Central Asian and Caucasus Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Commission was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in the period 10-12 October 2016. The following four countries attended the Session as members of the Commission: Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkey. Georgia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan attended the Session as observers. The Commission agreed to maintain its administrative budget at USD 180 000 for the years 2016 and 2017. The Commission, having a dopted 11 recommendations, guidelines and better management practices for inland fisheries and aquaculture in its first four sessions (2011-2015), monitored the progress made with implementation of these decisions in the region. The outcome of the monitoring exercise was that the guidelines and recommendations adopted are very relevant and that most are actively being implemented by the countries. The Commission decided to allocate more funds to implementation of its 2nd Regional Work Programme (2016-2020). Priorities for 2017 and 2018 include, amongst others: habitat rehabilitation for inland fisheries, methodologies for inland fisheries stocks assessments, development of best practices for cage aquaculture in reservoirs and lakes, capacity building of small-scale fishers, and training for the establishment of national fisheries and aquaculture data and information management systems.

    The First Special Session of the European Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Advisory Commission (EIFAAC) was held in Rome, Italy, on 27 October 2011. This Session was held with the sole purpose of adopting the new Rules of Procedure of the Commission. The two-thirds quorum, that was needed to adopt the new Rules of Procedure, was reached and the new Rules of Procedure were eventually adopted by voting with 25 affirmative votes, two negative votes and one abstention. The new Rules of Procedure of the Commission will be submitted to the Director-General of FAO for approval.

    The Sixth Session of the Central Asian and Caucasus Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Commission (CACFish) was held in Izmir, Turkey, from 15 to 18 October 2018. The meeting was attended by five CACFish Member states (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkey), ten Observer countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Kazakhstan, Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Serbia, the FYR of Macedonia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan) and two Observer organizations (EUROFISH International Organization and Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation). The Session discussed 1) main decisions and recommendations of relevant FAO Conferences and Committees; 2) decisions and recommendations of the Fifth Session of CACFish; 3) Commission’s activities implemented in the intersessional period 2016-2017. The Session also reviewed and approved the recommendations of the Fourth Meeting of TAC (28-30 November 2017, Tbilisi, Georgia), namely on the Commission’s annual budget for 2018 and 2019 (USD 180 000) and priority activities to be funded by the CACFish Trust Fund during the intersessional period 2018-2019. During the Session, both Member and Observer countries presented their country-level activities and issues in the field of fisheries and aquaculture. The hosts for the Fifth TAC Meeting (November 2019) and the Seventh CACFish Session (October 2020) were proposed, to be followed up by the Secretariat and respective Governments.
