Synopsis (short abstract) An FAO/WFP Crop and Food Supply Assessment Mission (CFSAM) visited the country from 11 to 22 May 2015 at the invitation of the Government of Swaziland to estimate the 2014/15 maize production and assess the food security situation. The invitation was prompted by an extended dry period between January and March 2015 that had raised serious concerns over the impact on crop production, particularly in the agro-ecological zones Lowveld and Lubombo Plateau.

    An FAO/WFP Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission (CFSAM) visited Sri Lanka from 12 to 29 March 2017 at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture to estimate the 2016/17 main maha paddy production, to forecast the ongoing 2017 secondary yala paddy production and to analyse household food security conditions. The request was prompted by a prolonged period of poor rainfall over most of the country throughout 2016 that raised serious concerns on production of paddy and other crops in 2017 as we ll as on livestock. The Mission assessed the impact of the dry weather on the 2017 main-crop harvest and estimated the expected food deficit for 2017. The Mission assessed the overall food-security situation and identified the main country’s agricultural support needs until the next main harvest.

    FAO/WFP CROP AND FOOD SUPPLY ASSESSMENT MISSION TO SWAZILAND - 15 June 2001 2001

    Following reports of a prolonged dry spell that affected the 2000/01 crops, an FAO/WFP Crop and Supply Assessment Mission visited Swaziland from 16 to 28 May 2001, to review harvest prospects and the overall food supply situation, and to estimate cereal import requirements, including food aid, if any, for the 2001/02 marketing year. The Mission received full cooperation from the National Early Warning Unit (NEWU), the Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operatives and the United Nations Development P rogramme. Discussions were held with the Deputy Prime Minister, the National Disaster Management Service, the National Maize Corporation (NMC), relevant UN agencies and NGOs. SADC Regional Early Warning Unit (REWU) participated in the Mission as an observer. Extensive field visits were undertaken in all agro-ecological regions of the country and interviews were conducted with farmers, extension service, millers and traders. The Mission split into two groups to ensure adequate coverage of key are as within the time allocated.

    An FAO/WFP Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission (CFSAM) visited South Sudan from 15 to 20 December 2019 to estimate the cereal production during 2019 and assess the overall food security situation in the country. The CFSAM reviewed the findings of several Crop Assessment Missions conducted from June to December 2019 at planting and harvest time in different agro‑ecological zones of the country.
