Synopsis (short abstract) The Consultant Aquaculture Specialist was not able to arrive in Pakistan on the dates agreed to allow an overlap with the visit of the Project Coordinator, as the air ticket did not arrive in time. Upon receiving a telex from the FAO Representative, Pakistan, dated 11 October, the FAO Representative, Nepal, made a new ticket available. The Consultant was therefore not able to begin his mission until 14 October. After reporting to the office of the FAOR at Islamabad on 14 October, a brief meeting was called with the Project Coordinator, Dr. I. G. Dunn, and the Consultant Aquaculture Engineer, Mr. E. Woynarovich. The various activities under the present consultancy was discussed as per memorandum (Appendix A). After completing financial formalities at the office of the FAO Representative, Islamabad, the Consultant reached his Lahore duty station on 17 October.

Asia-Pacific accounts for more than 90% of the world aquaculture output (FAO, 2016) and the region will have to responsible for sustaining the supply of food fish to increasing population. Feed input in aquaculture represents the major production cost and the most important factor affecting farming profitability and ecological efficiency. Issues and challenges have been rising with the questionable use of fish meal and fish oil, mounting pressure on and competition for ingredient supply, increasing feed costs, variation of feed quality and availability, and feed ingredient related food safety concerns. The region needs to adjust the development strategies and devote more efforts in research, development and capacity building for sustainable production and use of aquaculture feeds. A
