    This volume includes all the abstracts of the keynotes, oral contributions and posters presented by participants on the occasion of the Forum on Fisheries Science in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (Fish Forum 2018). Organized by the GFCM at FAO headquarters, Rome, Italy, from 10 to 14 December 2018, in collaboration with technical partners, the Fish Forum 2018 is a first-of-the-kind event gathering scientists, researchers, engineers, academics, practitioners, managers and decision-makers from around the world to discuss and share knowledge on the latest developments in fisheries science. The material contained in this book of abstracts stems from the contributions received from participants and selected by an international scientific committee based on their technical quality and relevance. The abstracts are subdivided according to the three main themes of the Fish Forum 2018: Better science for better advice; Healthy seas and sustainable fisheries; and Economic analysis and technology for societal benefit. Each theme is introduced by a keynote presentation, followed by oral presentations and posters. These documents form the basis of the discussions held during parallel sessions and poster sessions of the Fish Forum 2018.

    This publication presents the outcomes and conclusions of the Forum on Fisheries Science in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (Fish Forum 2024), including abstracts of keynote addresses, contributions and posters. Organized by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean, this event gathered scientists, fishers, stakeholders, researchers, engineers, academics, practitioners, managers and decision-makers from around the world to share knowledge on the latest developments and trends in fisheries science and discuss existing and emerging challenges as well as research priorities. The outcomes and abstracts are organized according to the three themes of Fish Forum 2024: better science for better advice; healthy seas and sustainable fisheries; and economic and technological innovation for resilient fisheries. The aim of this compilation is to provide insights to support decision-making processes and better advice in the region that will help shape the future of Mediterranean and Black Sea fisheries.

    This document contains the report of the FAO Workshop on Implementing the Agreement on Port State Measures to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (the Agreement) that was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Tirana, Albania, from 29 February to 4 March 2016. The workshop was attended by 42 participants from 16 coastal countries of the Mediterranean and Black Sea, in addition to representatives from one non-governmental organization (NGOs), one intergovernmental orga nization, one regional fishery management organizations (RFMO) and the European Commission. The workshop is organized to improve the understanding of the provisions of the PSMA, to highlight the policy, legal, institutional and operational requirements for effective implementation of the provisions, and to enhance the necessary skills of national officers in the implementation of port State measures. The workshop agenda included a number of items to inform the participants on the provisions and requirements of the PSMA, as well as the costs and benefits. The second half of the workshop brought the participants together in working groups to discuss challenges and recommendations in the region in terms of legal and policy, institutional and capacity building, operations, and finally regional cooperation. Funding for the workshop was provided by the Norwegian Government through the project "Support to the effective application of 2009 FAO Agreement on port State measures to combat illegal , unreported and unregulated fishing" (GCP/GLO/515/NOR).

    Tea (Camellia sinensis) is the manufactured drink most consumed in the world. Discovered about 2700BC, it is one of the oldest beverages in the world. Today it is available for consumption in six main varieties, based on the oxidization and fermentation technique applied. The tea crop has rather specific agro-climatic requirements that are only available in tropical and subtropical climates, while some varieties can tolerate marine climates of British mainland and Washington area of the Unites S tates. The tea plant needs a hot, moist climate. Its specific requirements are: temperatures ranging from 10-30oC (zone 8 climate or warmer), minimum annual precipitation of 1250 mm, preferably acidic soils, ideally 0.5-10 degree slopes and elevations up to 2000 meters. Tea production therefore is geographically limited to a few areas around the world and it is highly sensitive to changes in growing conditions. Importantly, its ideal growing conditions are at high risk and expected to significan tly change under climate change.
