The Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Tracking Tool user manual emphasizes the context behind developing the NDC Tracking Tool, its structure, methodological approach, and step-by-step guidance on how to install and use the tool. This Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Nationally Determined Contributions Tracking Tool is an Excel-based, easy-to-use tool, which is designed to facilitate countries in collecting the information required to track progress made in implementing and achieving their NDCs. Based on the information available in each country, the tool allows to assess the progress on NDC implementation by (i) comparing planned versus implemented mitigation and adaptation actions, and (ii) estimating the GHG reduction achieved from the implementation of mitigation actions compared against the sectoral and/or national baseline and NDC target scenario. The tool is designed to support governments, national experts, and practitioners involved in the preparation, implementation, updating, revision, and reporting of all sectors covered by the NDC.

Agrifood companies and the private sector are vital partners in addressing global climate change. The Scaling up Climate Ambition on Land Use and Agriculture through nationally determined contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) (SCALA) programme recognizes their unique role in driving innovation and investment for transformative climate action in agriculture and land use. The SCALA private sector engagement guidance series aims to support SCALA-supported countries in their efforts to engage with the private sector for the implementation of their national climate plans. The first addition to this series is the "Private sector mapping, outreach, and engagement in climate-responsive agrifood systems" guidance. This guidance outlines a three-step process for collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive NAPs and NDCs implementation. It explains how to identify relevant private sector actors, prioritize them based on climate relevance and potential contributions, and engage them strategically in joint climate action. By utilising this guidance, countries can enhance private sector engagement, foster partnerships, and drive climate actions in the agrifood sectors.

COP28 Agriculture, Food and Climate National Action Toolkit
Taking stock of good practices, initiatives, and tools for food system transformation through Nationally Determined Contributions and National Adaptation Plans

The COP28 Food Systems and Agriculture Agenda calls for accelerated food systems, agriculture and climate action and urges governments to align and integrate those actions within national strategies, including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) amongst others. It is built upon four pillars, covering national leadership, non-state actors, scaling up innovation, and finance as critical enablers to climate-resilient food system transformation. The United Arab Emirates Presidency convened a group of key partners supporting NDC and NAP planning and implementation across a wide range of countries and food and agriculture systems to consolidate existing experiences, learnings and resources for a global audience to accelerate ambitious climate action in food and agriculture systems at large. This task force, including WWF, Global Alliance for the Future of Food, Climate Focus, NDC Partnership, FAO, Alliance of Biodiversity International and CIAT, synthesised all guidance material available and lessons learned on NDC and NAP implementation for food system transformation. The “COP 28 Agriculture, Food and Climate Action Toolkit” developed serves as a key resource for national policymakers and decision-makers aiming to accelerate and align national efforts on climate action and food and agriculture system transformation by (1) providing a summary of priority actions, (2) giving an overview of good examples of NDCs and NAPs in how they integrate agriculture and food system measures, and (3) providing overview of existing initiatives, platforms, and tools that can help governments in developing and implementing agriculture and food system policy measures as part of their NDCs and NAPs.
