Synopsis (short abstract) This module illustrates a case study regarding the Commodity Chain Analysis (CCA). It belongs to a set of modules which discuss how to carry out CCA through a step–by-step procedure. The user is introduced to a real situation where he has to build and analyze a commodity chain. The case study contains five exercises based on a database provided in a spreadsheet, containing all relevant information (e.g, yields, hectares per agent etc). The first exercise allows the user to familiarize with the f unctional analysis of a commodity chain. The second exercise aims to practise the flows analysis. The third one helps experts to use the production-trading accounts which are the real foundations of the CCA. The fourth one allows us to build the analysis model based on the accounts of individual agents. Finally, the fifth one illustrates how to use this model to simulate scenarios.

    Ce module positionne le cadre formé dans une situation d’expert chargé de monter un cadre d’analyse de filière; il dispose d’une base d’informations empiriques assez complexes qui illustre bien la situation habituelle (existence d’informations plus ou moins agrégées fournies par ha, par périmètre, par opérateur ou par région). Le premier exercice le conduit à se familiariser avec l’analyse fonctionnelle. Le second exercice vise à maîtriser l’analyse des flux. Le troisième exercice initie l’exper t à l’emploi de comptes de production-exploitation qui constituent la véritable base de la structure d’analyse. Le quatrième exercice permet de construire le modèle d’analyse basé sur les comptes des agents. Le cinquième exercice illustre comment employer le modèle dans le cadre de simulation de scénarii ou d’alternatives de politiques. Ce module d’application pratique est à employer en aval d’une présentation méthodologique (modules méthodologiques EASYPol sur l’analyse de filière).

    This module illustrates how Commodity Chain Analysis (CCA) can be used starting by how to construct the commodity chain, how to develop a functional analysis and how to analyze the commodity flows (flow chart). The module starts by an introduction on commodity chain analysis as a tool and by a comparison with the other approaches of chain analysis. It then develops a way to construct the commodity chain, to specify the concept of agents. The next step deals with the functional analysis of the co mmodity chain. The last part covers the commodity flow analysis.
