This fact sheet presents the FISH4ACP programme that promotes responsible and sustainable fishing and processing techniques in Cameroon. The knowledge gained allows fishers to better preserve shrimp nurseries and spawning grounds, and protect mangrove forests. At the same time, fish processors will be able to improve processing practices, resulting in higher-quality shrimp that can be sold at a better price.

FISH4ACP, an initiative of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (OACPS) that aims to improves the economic, social and environmental sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture value chains in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, aims to stimulate sustainable growth of the oyster sector in Senegal. Oysters are a vital source of healthy food for many people in Senegal. They also generate significant revenues for women, particularly in the south of the country. FISH4ACP works with them to increase their incomes and improve working conditions, while reducing the pressure of oyster harvesting on Senegal’s mangroves. FISH4CP is implemented by FAO with funding from the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
