This document presents the report of the 2023 Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (ASFA) Advisory Board Meeting (ABM), which took place from 3 to 6 October 2023 in Bangkok Thailand. During the meeting, the Advisory Board agreed on major decisions that will update ASFA’s business model, focusing on ASFA’s partnership structure, funding model and technologies. Collectively, the decisions made at the meeting are intended to secure ASFA’s future in terms of partnership engagement and financial sustainability. The most significant decision made at the meeting was the provisional adoption of the Terms of Reference that will replace the existing Partnership Agreement, which all institutions sign upon becoming an ASFA partner. The Terms of Reference move ASFA away from a formal partnership structure to a light, flexible framework that offers options for participation at different levels, according to an individual's or institution's resources and capacities. The Terms of Reference also replace the Advisory Board with a Steering Committee, meaning that the 2023 meeting is the last meeting of the Advisory Board. The FAO ASFA Secretariat would like to thank all members of the Advisory Board, both past and present, for their contributions to ASFA over the years, ASFA is a unique partnership and would not have lasted more than fifty years without the contributions of its partners and Advisory Board members.

This document presents the report of the 2021 ASFA Advisory Board Meeting, which took place 13–17 September 2021. Though conducted virtually, the meeting provided a platform for lively discussions with ideas proposed that will benefit ASFA as it continues its transition to an open information network focused on meeting the needs of aquatic science, fisheries and aquaculture stakeholders. Agreement was reached on a number of key areas for ASFA, including: plans to cover datasets; features and improvements to OpenASFA; changes to the structure of Working Groups and Regional Networks; and how to plan and communicate events in 2022. Notwithstanding the progress made in individual areas of ASFA, it was the overall enthusiasm and expertise of ASFA’s partners that most significantly contributed to the success of the meeting. The FAO ASFA Secretariat would therefore like to thank all ASFA Partners, Collaborating Centres and Associates who participated in the meeting. Supporting papers are available as Annexes.
